Kshema's 7 Quick Takes Friday (Launch Volume)

--- 1 ---
I am picking up my writing strings again :)
Feel like writing these days.
Hope to continue writing and post atleast every Friday.

Thanks to my good friend Jason Pannone@Pannoneappetit for introducing me to this wonderful template. I really liked it a lot. It kind of gives you the flexibility of writing different pieces, broken down into manageable chunks and integrate different formats like text, audio, video, graphics etc.

On a lighter note....... rightly said! Isn't it true that we all need some introspection and retrospection some time in our lives? I do it quite often. Not just introspect and retrospect but I also feel one should spend some time in absolute solace with one's self.

Weekend usually means cleaning, cooking, music and possibly a movie or two (if the TV Gods are merciful enough to uphold my interest). Last week it was khaman dhokla, sabudana khichdi seasoned with Rang De Basanti. I wonder what lays in store for this weekend!

Thinking of re-starting my yoga schedule. I realized that it keeps the body and mind, both at peace :)
Specially, if the workout is performed with a backdrop of soothing instrumentals or spiritual hymns or classical music or chants. I used to follow a one-hour yoga regime in the mornings and a near 30-minute tread mill in the evenings. Atleast 5 times a week will do wonders. Tread mill is fun when it is coupled with some motivational/rhythmic/dance floor music. Sure, in a healthy body dwells a healthy mind!

After many years I felt the musical bliss again. Helping my daughter set her tabla beats  for a community performance, I started singing again. I did not realize how many hours passed while I brushed up the Tyagaraja Pancharatna Kritis and some Sufi Khayals. No doubt, music has highest powers of healing. It touches the soul. Kudos to the great saints who are the composers of such immortal music. Be it Tyagaraja or Amir Khusro, they elevate us to envision our inner self's meeting with the refulgent supreme divine as we progress along with the musical crescendo.

Love the Christmas carols too, specially "Silent night....". As a child I enjoyed singing them in the school choir. Somehow I believe "music gets the best of me".

So, that's all for now and I sign off. See you next Friday with some more interesting takes. Until then enjoy your weekend and your work week ahead!

What went wrong?

It has been a few months that I bought this book - Essentialism by Greg McKeown . I found the book very realistic and baring the naked truth of my life in my face. But could not get even half way through it... as usual, got distracted with the non-essentials in my, after all, plain Jane life. I hate to say this but my life is mundanely simple. There are no excitements, no yahoo moments, not much of travel, no great social connect either. But I do have a bunch of good friends. Interestingly, I have picked up good friends in all walks of my life. I am neither a chatty kind nor a monk. And, am happy for the fact that my friends do not hate me. I do not offer opinions and advises, unless specifically asked for. Nor do I criticize anybody 'coz I do not know what the other person is/was caught up in. In a nutshell, I do not waste my energy on this stuff. And, I am meticulous in whatever work I am given to do. These are a few things that I am proud of. Well, coming back to the book in re...

Kshema's 7 Quick Takes Friday (Volume 02/2015)

--- 1 --- There's a disconnect between my mind and body. My mind wants to express and my hands do not cooperate. The week was not-so-good, though it was not particularly bad also. I haven't suffered any set backs, but still, something inside me dissatisfied....... with things, happenings, doers and circumstances; but surprisingly not with myself, which is not the case always. --- 2 --- Relevance While reading Mitch Albom's "The Time Keeper", towards the end of the novel, I found the flow of story very interesting that probed me to think of the relevance of the plethora of things we do in our lives. The novel is story about Father Time, an old wealthy man and a young girl, all of them unrelated to each other in time and space; each of their story runs parallely throughout. The old wealthy man who is terminal, strategizes to freeze his own body beyond time, so that he can turn alive in future when a sure shot cure is invented for his ailment. For this he ...

Under the Banyan Tree

“If we practice looking deeply we see that our notion of happiness may be responsible for our suffering. That is why the Buddha advises us to look again deeply into the nature of our desires. We suffer just because of them.” – Thich Nhat Hanh, Under the Banyan Tree. I was bestowed upon the title of a banyan tree today. I do not know if the title bestower considers himself as the seed or sapling that is trying to germinate and grow. Also, I do not know what is the point that the title bestower is trying to make. Let me try to make an attempt to understand what the title bestower is trying to communicate.   Let us, for the sake of this conversation, believe that I am a tree. Traversing back in time, I recall, I was brought to this place as a mid-sized plant. I was planted and expected to grow with time and deliver results of blooming and fruition. Whether I grew strong or not, only time and the people who saw me can say. I tried my level best to utilize all the resources and ...
