An ode to the Gaan Gandharva!!

Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, a gem of Indian musicology, is remembered fondly even by a common man in India.  Indian national television Doordarshan has helped a lot in familiarizing with this musical marvel, even in the remotest parts of the country. The 80s generations will not forget 'Mile sur mera tumhara' and 'Baje sargam' produced by Lok Seva Sanchar Parishad.

Both, jewels of Doordarshan!!
More soon :)

What went wrong?

It has been a few months that I bought this book - Essentialism by Greg McKeown . I found the book very realistic and baring the naked truth of my life in my face. But could not get even half way through it... as usual, got distracted with the non-essentials in my, after all, plain Jane life. I hate to say this but my life is mundanely simple. There are no excitements, no yahoo moments, not much of travel, no great social connect either. But I do have a bunch of good friends. Interestingly, I have picked up good friends in all walks of my life. I am neither a chatty kind nor a monk. And, am happy for the fact that my friends do not hate me. I do not offer opinions and advises, unless specifically asked for. Nor do I criticize anybody 'coz I do not know what the other person is/was caught up in. In a nutshell, I do not waste my energy on this stuff. And, I am meticulous in whatever work I am given to do. These are a few things that I am proud of. Well, coming back to the book in re...

Kshema's 7 Quick Takes Friday (Volume 02/2015)

--- 1 --- There's a disconnect between my mind and body. My mind wants to express and my hands do not cooperate. The week was not-so-good, though it was not particularly bad also. I haven't suffered any set backs, but still, something inside me dissatisfied....... with things, happenings, doers and circumstances; but surprisingly not with myself, which is not the case always. --- 2 --- Relevance While reading Mitch Albom's "The Time Keeper", towards the end of the novel, I found the flow of story very interesting that probed me to think of the relevance of the plethora of things we do in our lives. The novel is story about Father Time, an old wealthy man and a young girl, all of them unrelated to each other in time and space; each of their story runs parallely throughout. The old wealthy man who is terminal, strategizes to freeze his own body beyond time, so that he can turn alive in future when a sure shot cure is invented for his ailment. For this he ...

Kshema's 7 Quick Takes Friday (Volume 16)

--- 1 --- It has been a very good week. Don't they say, "all is well that ends well"? So true. As the night ends with the break of a new dawn, a new hope rises. Sometimes a new beginning, a fresh start is what required. The feeling is to completely erase the dark phase from our memories, make a new beginning and build a fresh story. At such times we are reminded to "forgive and forget". I am also reminded to beg God for forgiveness for if I have done something wrong during the dark phase, intentionally or unintentionally; pray for strength from Him to tread the path of righteousness. --- 2 --- Michchhāmi Dukkaḍaṃ For the first time I got to know about Kshamavani Diwas , the Universal Forgiveness Day . The Jains beg for forgiveness from one and all on Samvatsari , the concluding day of their Paryushana festival.  Micchāmi Dukkaḍaṃ  is a ancient  Prakrit  phrase literally meaning — may all the evil that has been done be fruitless.  Michchh...
