I am Mridula Chirmule

I walk down the memory lane

Every now and then...

I feel I am Mridula Chirmule

When I wear a sari and tie my curls in a ponytail

When I drive my scooter wearing a sari

When I wrap the pallu of my sari on my left hand while driving the scooter

And I drive away in dignity with a straight posture and firm expressions, but with a smile

I feel I am Mridula Chirmule

When I say "I don't like dishonesty, I don't tolerate indiscipline",

Specially, to my juniors

Yet, mentor them with affection

And they warm up to me in return

I feel I am Mridula Chirmule

When I don't care about my career progression

But do not compromise with my work

When I put my foot down firmly on what I believe

No matter what people say, workaholic, level headed, upfront, overreacting...

I feel I am Mridula Chirmule

My Mridula Chirmule is a beacon to me

And I look upto her any time and always

I am fortunate for sure, for I have her

Because God smiled on me

And I try to emulate myself to that beacon's persona

This I say with a glee not visible evidently

But with a sparkle of immense satisfaction in my heart

[14 September 2020: Teachers Day passed and Mother's Day passed. Every year they come and go. This is an ode to Ms. Mridula Chirmule, more of a mother figure, a teacher and a friend to me and less of a boss to me. Technically, she was my teacher and my first boss when I entered this wonderful profession of librarianship at India's premiere research organization, National Chemical Laboratory, Pune.]

Kshema's 7 Quick Takes Friday (Volume 05/2015)

And then Lord said, "Let there be week days"! --- 1 --- Manic Monday Hello Monday! Starting day of the week is usually the one filled with frenzy. You are the day when the "To Do" list that's written in the first morning hours is long; and the Inbox gets flooded too. Chase and get chased; and it runs into the other days of the week when the chase weakens by Wednesday and tries to pause by Friday, only to start afresh the next Monday. Home takes backseat. --- 2 --- Turn Up Tuesday Hey there Tuesday! Work craziness continues with growing number of rush hours, calls, clicking and clacking of keyboard and mouse, multiple windows of word processors, spreadsheets, and browsers strewn open across multiple systems. Programmers feverishly scripting away their ideas to meet the expectations of their principals amidst balancing the poking requests of a network of users.... silently cursing themselves and their days for they cannot satisfy all. The...

Kshema's 7 Quick Takes Friday (Launch Volume)

--- 1 --- I am picking up my writing strings again :) Feel like writing these days. Hope to continue writing and post atleast every Friday. --- 2 --- Thanks to my good friend Jason Pannone@ Pannoneappetit for introducing me to this wonderful template. I really liked it a lot. It kind of gives you the flexibility of writing different pieces, broken down into manageable chunks and integrate different formats like text, audio, video, graphics etc. --- 3 --- On a lighter note....... rightly said! Isn't it true that we all need some introspection and retrospection some time in our lives? I do it quite often. Not just introspect and retrospect but I also feel one should spend some time in absolute solace with one's self. --- 4 --- Weekend usually means cleaning, cooking, music and possibly a movie or two (if the TV Gods are merciful enough to uphold my interest). Last week it was khaman dhokla , sabudana khichdi   seasoned with Rang De Basanti . I wonder what ...

Celebrating International Women's Day

Wishing a very Happy International Women's day to all those wonderful and glorious women and little girls on this earth, and specially wishing those men who respect and care for women!! As per Encyclopaedia Britannica , IWD (8th of March) was instituted for honouring the achievements of women and promoting women’s rights. A national holiday in numerous countries, it has been sponsored by the United Nations (UN) since 1975. Remembering the women power, starting from our epics and puranas, viz., Savitri, Sita, Draupadi, Ahalya, Tara, Radha, Mandodari, Sulochana, Mata Anasuya, to Florence Nightingale, Helen Keller, Sister Nivedita, Mother Teresa, Anandi Gopal, Sarojini Naidu, Durgabai Deshmukh, Rani Lakshmibai, Razia Sultan, Kiran Bedi, Bacchendri Pal, Madame Curie, Shakuntala Devi, the list is endless. Each one of us can make a difference because we can do anything we put our mind to ... we can swim the deepest ocean, and climb the highest peak, be a doctor or fly a plane, w...
